Derek Barker is the Managing Director of Haskoll, international award-winning architects based in London, Beijing and Shanghai and with connections across Europe. He is responsible for the practice’s consultancy across Europe and has worked on over 75 new build and refurbishment retail projects. With over 30 years of shopping centre, food court and retail design experience Derek is a well known figure across the UK and Europe. He is also a Director of Haskoll China, a rapidly expanding part of the Haskoll group, which designs shopping centres, retail complexes and resorts in the Far East. He has built an enviable bank of knowledge from research visits to over 500 shopping centres across the world.

Shane Eldstrom is currently the Vice President of Development for NREC, Chief Operating Officer for Al Farwaniya (NREC’s UAE development vehicle) and a member of the Board of Directors for Kurdistan Real Estate Development Corporation in Iraq.  NREC is one of the largest and most diverse real estate companies in the Middle East region having operations in ten countries including the development of the $1 Billion Reem Mall in Abu Dhabi.  Shane has been in Commercial Real Estate, specializing in Retail, for around 20 years holding senior and executive positions with Bentall Capital, Ivanhoe Cambridge (one of the 10 largest real estate companies in the world,) Dubai Properties and Al Ghurair Group in the operation, leasing and development of large scale enclosed shopping centres, including Metropolis at Metrotown (2nd largest mall in Canada), Central City (2004 winner of the MIPIM Jury prize for “World’s Best Overall New Development”) and the Walk at JBR (Dubai’s hottest lifestyle destination.)  Shane has also gained unique insight into the retail industry having been head of real estate for a retail group which included: House of Fraser, California Pizza Kitchen and Hamleys Toy Store with operations throughout the GCC, Levant and Turkey.

 He graduated the University of British Columbia Urban Land Economics program and completed the International Council of Shopping Centre’s (ICSC’s) University of Shopping Centres program holding certifications in Development, Design and Construction (CDP), Management (CSM) and Leasing (CLS.)  Since 2011 he has been an active member of the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres Board of Directors chairing Education and Nextgen Programs, teaching at the JTR School for professional development, speaking, writing and currently sits on the ICSC CLS admissions and governing committee.  Shane was recently awarded ICSC’s highest certification, the Commercial Real Estate Executive (CRX) designation and in 2014 was elected President of the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres.

David has been in the retail, commercial, residential and mixed-use real estate industry for thirty three years. He has completed projects totalling in excess of USD $5.2 billion in Canada and the Middle East. For the past eleven years that David has been in the Gulf region, he has held senior executive positions in leasing, mall design, creation and implementation of merchandise mix, as well as analysis of project viability. Iconic retail projects with direct input include Dubai Festival City with Al Futtaim, Dubai Mall and other international shopping malls with Emaar.  As Regional Director with Jones Lang LaSalle the retail team has provided development advisory and leasing in thirty five major retail environments in the UAE, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi, Egypt and Qatar. 

David is now CEO of the MECSC / ICSC for the MENA region. Representing over 620 Shopping Centres in the MENA region, the MECSC has grown its membership base by 20% annually under his leadership.

A Canadian, David holds a Bachelor degree from the University of Calgary and Executive Real Estate courses from the University of British Columbia.  David was Chairman of the Canadian Business Council in 2011, 2012 and 2013.  He is also a registered member of RERA in Dubai and the Vice President of the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres (MECSC) in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Andrew is Head of Retail Division of Jones Lang LaSalle MENA region, has been involved in numerous retail development advisory and leasing assignments totalling in excess of USD $2.5 billion. For the past 10 years Andrew has been in the Gulf region he has advised on mall design, leasing, creation and implementation of merchandise mix, as well as analysis of project viability.  Projects include retail mix and layout in Faisaliah and The Landmark in Riyadh,The Dareen Project in Jubail, Palm Mall in Oman and Deerfields in Abu Dhabi. Having also spent 2.5 years in Tenant Coordination, he understands the technical requirements of a retail environment and what it takes to successfully deliver a project to the market. As National Director with JLL the retail team has provided development advisory and leasing in major retail environments in the UAE, KSA, Qatar, Egypt and Oman.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of  Western Ontario, completed the British Columbia Real Estate Licensing Course, held the Certified Financial Planners designation, is a registered member of RERA in Dubai and a member of the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres.(MECSC).

Colin is a chartered surveyor with over 20 years of experience working in property, portfolio and retail asset management in the UK and Greater China.

Colin relocated to Dubai recently after 10 years in China to lead the Property & Asset Management Service group within Middle Esat and North Africa.

His focus is to lead the regional teams and advise clients on setting up and managing mixed use projects across this region.

Colin’s recent and notable work in Asia Pacific includes the asset management on two mixed use landmark buildings for GIC, leading a national team for the management of 9 malls across China for Blackstone/Macquarie JV, support and oversight for the retail consultancy for Show DC, Bangkok; and oversight and support for over 20 malls and mixed use developments managed across China.
